How does a keyboard work?
The processor in a keyboard has to
understand several things that are important to the utility of the keyboard, such as:
- Position
of the key in the key matrix.
- The amount of bounce and how to filter it.
- The speed at which to transmit the typematics
Underneath
the keyboard is a key matrix. Each circuit is broken at a point below every specific key. Pressing a key, will close a circuit
and allow a tiny amount of current to flow. The processor sees this and will display the result, following the character map.
The keyboard is obviously used to input data, or type something in an online chat
or forum. It also allows you to perform various actions, according to what type of buttons the keyboard may have. For example,
a keyboard may have a “Calculator” button, and when pressed, the computer will open up the calculator
